Spring activities for kids

The flowers are beginning to bloom, the days are getting longer and with the weather warming up, spring half-term is a great time of year to get out and about with loved ones.

We have put together some activities your little ones can enjoy without feeling the pinch.

Create a scavenger hunt together

A scavenger hunt is the perfect opportunity to get out in the sunshine and explore your local area. All you need to do is write a list of seasonal items, such as daffodils or birds, and take a stroll, ticking off the items when you see them. For younger children, why not get them to draw the list instead.

Create a nature collage

Creating a nature collage is a free activity children of all ages and abilities can enjoy. When you’re out and about, start to collect items that have fallen to the ground, such as twigs, leaves and flowers. Once you have collected your materials, you can start to arrange them into picture.

Make a bug hotel

Making homes for wildlife is a fun activity you can do in your garden or local park. A bug hotel helps insects stay safe away from predators which then helps our greenspaces flourish. You can make a bug hotel from spare bricks, logs, pinecones and even twigs. For full details on how to make yours, please visit www.woodlandtrust.org.uk.

Create a birdfeeder

Using natural or biodegradable materials such as a pinecone or a cardboard tube, you have the base of your birdfeeder. Cover it in natural peanut butter and sprinkle it in seeds. Hang it on a nearby tree and watch as the birds tuck into their new treat!

Chalk art

Chalk art is great way to get outdoors and brighten up your local area. You can create temporary works of art for everyone to enjoy and create games such as hop-scotch.
