Summer Fire Safety
We take your safety seriously and keeping you, your neighbours, and your home safe, is our top priority. Please read our fire guidance carefully to ensure the safety of your home and loved ones.
We work with fire assessors to inspect all internal communal areas of our blocks. They provide us with a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) with the actions we need to complete. You can view these actions upon request by emailing us at compliance@wandle.com.
What to do if you hear a fire alarm in your building:
- Leave the building quickly and safely by using your nearest fire exit. Do not go back into the building until you have been told by the fire service it is safe to do so.
- If your fire escape is blocked by a fire, it may be safer to stay put until the fire brigade arrives. Close the door and use soft materials to block any gaps to stop the smoke getting in. If you have a phone, call 999 immediately, go to a window and shout ‘HELP, FIRE’ and wait to be rescued.
What you need to do to stay safe:
- Keep your communal areas of your building clear so people can get out quickly and safely. Creating a clear space will also allow firefighters to enter the building easily to put out a fire.
- Do not store any items in communal areas, as these could catch alight, spread and block exits. We check communal areas regularly but if you see any items left lying around, please contact your Neighbourhood Customer Service Officer.
- If you have a balcony, you must not use it for barbecues as it is unsafe and not permitted.
- Please avoid storing combustible materials on your balcony. This includes the use of combustible materials as privacy screens.
- We fit all our tenant homes with smoke alarms. If you do not have a smoke alarm or if it does not work, please call us on 0300 2000 120 immediately. You can test your smoke alarm by pressing the test button until the alarm sounds. If it doesn’t make a sound or if it beeps on a regular basis, the batteries may need replacing.
- If we ask to carry out an inspection or repair in your home, please allow us access to ensure the safety of you and your home.
- If any of the fire doors in your block do not shut properly or look damaged, please contact us on 0300 2000 120 or email us at customerservices@wandle.com for a repair.
