In time for Christmas
Our Build More Homes team recently rehoused a resident from Wandsworth living in an extremely damp property.
Mr S*, 42 had been living in a home that was negatively impacting his physical and mental health.
The dire living situation was discovered when a surveyor visited as part of a routine visit. They were so shocked by the dampness and mould in the property, that they contacted our Housing and Major Repairs team to organise an urgent decant to temporary accommodation.
After further investigation, we learned that the damp and mould had spread to the other two flats and the communal hallway. This meant we had to decant the two other residents living in the block.
Mr S* was moved to a new one-bedroom property close to where he used to live. Our excellent resident liaison officer organised a removal company to help him move, as well as carpets being installed in his new home. In addition, she processed a home loss payment of £8000.
Mr S was delighted with his new home, saying:
"From the beginning, the investigation stage people were very helpful and understanding and took the matter very seriously. Getting the home loss payment was great and it will help with purchasing furniture and crucial items needed for my new property. It will also be put towards the rent so I can focus on settling in without any immediate worries.”
This was a major success for residents, who are now in a safe and comfortable home. The entire process took about a month, which is a quick turnaround and shows what happens when we work as a large team.
It’s important to note that if you notice damp and mould in your home, please tell us straight away so we can resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
